The Best Out There... January 9, 2009 I have taken care of 15 or so newborns in my 15 years of nanning for various families. This works! I have helped friends use this with their newborns. If you want your baby to sleep through the night, this is the best tool I know of to help a parent of a newborn. Ezzo makes the information clear and simple.

I was told by several mothers at church to get baby wise and use it. I read the book in full before my daughter was born and it sounded pretty good, but when I actually tried to start doing the program after the birth, I felt like I was in over my head.
First, the book makes you feel like if you don't start the program the minute they are born, you have failed. I remember looking at the book when she was two weeks old and I was still recovering from the birth and thinking I had already blown it. Second, it provides zero advice on what to do if your milk comes in late and throws the whole thing off. It also tells you to only feed baby at 2.5 to 3 hour intervals, and never in between. that led to low milk production for me...when she was growing and hungry more often, i withheld because i had just fed her an hour before. i was scared to give in because the book says if you feed "on demand" (ie when your baby is hungry but it's not time yet) they will grow up to be overwieght and an emotional eater.
on the plus side, the scheduling aspect of it was helpful once we got over our struggle with breastfeeding, low supply, etc. and now she can go to sleep on her own, she is growing well and nursing well.
like any parenting philosophy, no baby or mom will fit 100% into one style. Read many different styles and you'll have the tools you need.
Happy mom and happy baby November 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My daugter was sleep deprived, and her baby was fussy most of the time. He sometimes ate every hour during the night. A friend told her about the book and how it helped her when her 2 children were babies. I have a happy grandson and happy daughter now and wish I had had this book when my children were young. When one has tried everything else, why not try some of the advice given in the book. The key was to feed your baby, play until they were tired, and then put them to bed.

I used this material with our first son in 1994 and am using it again for our second son now in 2008. In fact, I am re-ordering it because I want any updates they may have added.
My clear recollection of my first son compared to neighbors' kids born around the same time was that he was calmer, collected, and infinitely more happy and well-adjusted.
If the reader is interested to further investigate the Ezzo's please see their site at gfi.org. The below is a quick blurb from a link at their site:
"Gary Ezzo holds a Master of Arts degree from Biola University, Talbot Theological Seminary and School of Theology and serves as the Executive Director of Growing Families International. Anne Marie Ezzo is a registered nurse, has co-authored On Becoming Birthwise, and Birth by Design, oversees the GEMS (Contact Mom) ministry and ministers alongside her husband. The Ezzo's have 2 married daughters, eight grandchildren."
I suspect that TulipGirl, one of the "reviewers" has her own ax to grind and has not revealed her own preferences, beliefs, associations, or whether on not she has had children of her own.
As for myself, I am a Christian, a father, an accounting manager, and am on the verge of completing my fourth degree. I want the best for my kids and that means I want what works. This stuff definitely works. Please feel free to contact me via this site if you would like.
Thanks,
Don

I have the hard copy of this book as well. It is a helpful book that just makes sense. The narator is kind of hard to listen to at times but the content is good. You may want to get the book as well so you can see the lay out and schedules better.
