Product Description James Hudson Taylor (1832-1905) was a Christian missionary to China, and founder of the China Inland Mission (renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship). He served there for 51 years, bringing over 800 missionaries to the country and personally baptizing an estimated 50,000 converts. He was famous for his commitment to cultural sensitivity, wearing Chinese dress even though this was rare among missionaries of that time. China Inland Mission accepted working class volunteers, women, multinational recruits, and members of all Protestant denominations. Hudson Taylor has been referred to as one of the most significant figures in the history of China in the 19th century, and the China Inland Mission was responsible for the widest Christian evangelistic campaign since the first century when Paul the Apostle brought Christian teaching to Europe. At Taylor's death in 1905, there were 205 stations with 849 missionaries and 125,000 Chinese Christians in the China Inland Mission. This is the classic biography of James Hudson Taylor by his son Howard and daughter-in-law Geraldine, who also served as missionaries to China. It is the inspiring story of Taylor's uncovering of the spiritual secret that paved the way for the China Inland Mission to become a reality. This classic title has sold hundreds of thousands of copies since its original publication in 1932. Hendrickson introduces a lovely edition, re-typeset and redesigned, a perfect gift for anyone who wants to replace the old paperback or who is encountering Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret for the first time.

A Must Missionary and Leadership Read November 6, 2008 If you are fairly comfortable with the way you are living, this book will disturb you! Hudson Taylor serves as a challenging example of what it means to walk by faith and not by sight. He was a man of prayer and great vision for God and His mission. Anyone thinking about going into cross-cultural missions should read this to see how to start preparing now to live simply and in complete dependence on the Lord. Leaders in missions and the church should read it to see what it looks like to hold those under your leadership to a high standard of faith and hard work. This book is a classic and will be in print for a long time!
A BOOK TO ENCOURAGE HEART-SEARCHING September 1, 2008 This book has helped to change my life. It is neatly and gently written, and seems to convey a part of Hudson Taylor's own gentleness with it. No Christian library can be complete without it. It is a book you read over every so often, in an attempt to spur you towards reaching what Hudson Taylor called 'the exchanged life'. Next to the Bible, this is one of about five books that has radically changed my outlook on life.
Amazing May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is simply one of the most powerful books you could read to draw you to the Lord, in increased trust, fervor and understanding of His love.
Amazing Faith February 16, 2008 This work regarding the testimony of God's faithfulness to Hudson Taylor is truly inspiring and amazing. Hudson Taylor was truly a unique individual that sought to pioneer the mission movement in inland. While other missionaries were content to stay in the large metropolitan centers of Asia dotted along the coastline, Taylor ventured forth with a firm faith in God with the purpose of bringing the Gospel to the Chinese countryside. The title of the book is somewhat of a misnomer as the secret is no secret. Taylor bowed his knee in simple obedience to clear biblical commands. The secret of the book is how it documents Taylor's account of how God used him. God said "Go!" and Taylor went, and the influence of that is still being impacted on Asia. The book shows the uniqueness of Taylor as God worked in his spiritual formation, mission philosophy and practice. The Hudson Taylor's spiritual secret is attributed to his radical commitment to live a life in which he completely trusted in God and the living out of the Great Commission.
Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret September 24, 2007 Very informative and honest account of what it is really like in practice to trust in Jesus Christ to fulfill your needs when you are loving and obeying the Lord's Word (the Bible).
